It\u2019s easy to find ways to connect existing practices to character development but by being proactive and systematic, you can plan out how all the pieces fit together.<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"pright\">This kind of approach is not quick or easy, but what we have found over 20+ years is that the intentional approach makes all the difference. This school is located in Dundalk, Maryland, and they believe that without a plan, character education won\u2019t happen. The leadership team, which meets twice a month, uses the school progress plan to guide their meetings and initiatives. The team is open to all staff (they can elect to be on the committee) and is a representative group that includes teachers from all grade levels and many special subjects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"agree_inner_container\">\n<div class=\"why_do_character remove_three\">\n<div class=\"school_blog getting_old_blog\">\n<div class=\"clearfix three\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-12\">\n<div class=\"why_do_img\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/exchange.character.org\/wp-content\/themes\/Character\/images\/P3Overview_crossBayou.png\" alt=\"P3Overview_crossBayou\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-12\">\n<div class=\"why_do_content\">\n<h4>Many schools that have now been certified as National Schools of Character have told us that they struggled for years to move from piecemeal to comprehensive, but once everyone was on board, they started seeing all the results through their school climate surveys, decreases in disciplinary incidents, and just how the school \u201cfelt.\u201d The final example can\u2019t really be quantified, but you\u2019ll see that over time, the culture of the school shifts to become more caring, thoughtful, and peaceful.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"school_blog getting_old_blog\">\n<div class=\"clearfix\">\n<div class=\"school__right\">\n<div class=\"school_blog_left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/exchange.character.org\/wp-content\/themes\/Character\/images\/getting-old-blog.png\" alt=\"getting-old-blog\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"school__left\">\n<div class=\"school_blog_right\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/exchange.character.org\/wp-content\/themes\/Character\/images\/decline_blog.png\" alt=\"Involved-blog\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"agree_inner_container\">\n<div class=\"why_do_character pfmargin\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-sm-12 col-xs-12\">\n<div class=\"why_do_content\">\n<div class=\"overviewfive\">\n<h2>How Do You Take a Holistic Approach?<\/h2>\n<h4>It sounds great to say that your approach will be \u201cholistic\u201d or \u201csystemic,\u201d but what does that really mean? It starts through careful review: think through your school practices, your curriculum, your extracurriculars and what \u201cjust happens.\u201d How do they affect the character of your students? Students watch us modeling behavior every day. Better to be intentional in our approach and aware of the messages we could be sending.<\/h4>\n<h4>Digging into these questions can begin to reveal the experiences of students that have a tremendous, incremental impact on their character development.
